Open Question: Christians : Would this bother you?

If I went to x-mas section and started being arrogant and saying 'Islam is the light, leave Christianity because you can only return to your Lord ALLAH through His religion ISLAM' OK, this is what I believe ((apart from the leave christianity part [no compulsion in religion])) but is it right, or fair for me to start pushing it down peoples trhoats when it wasn't what I asked. I'm being general here, but from the examples of the representative Christians here, you are every VERY pushy with your views (with exceptions of course) and you don't ever answer the question in an unbaised manner. Its just a bit pathetic thats every, first africa now ramadan section. Why doesn't Islam adopt the pushy method of dawah, does it work to completely trash someone elses beliefs by pushy yours on others. If you want to represent Christianity be like my grandmother (she's so awesome) or juvegirl. As a Christian I was that person, now a Muslim I am still tolerant and not pushy. I don't think Jesus was pushy! LoveAlways: I understand where you are coming from but a lot of the time, you will ask a question eg. Do you like chicken and they will say, Jesus is the light... :\ Ok bad analogy but the example still stands julie n: I agree with you 100%! that is my main concern peace! nicole: if i had aimed this question at atheists, that is the phrase i would have coined. Broken record much. I tihink that must be the motto from the atheism hand book thejob: go over to Christmas section and find one answer from a Muslim telling them that Islam is the light and Jesus is not God, you wont find it but you find it here from Christians Oh and Jehovahs witnesses, i mean whats up with that devilmaycry: nation of Islam is NOT Islam, two COMPLETELY different religions, sorry to dissapoint you Dee: The terrorist attack was not muslims, look harder or dont look harder, it is so comfortable in that little bubble fireperson: Your a prime example, ignore the question and let the spirit take over NC: a beautiful answer thank you.

Open Question: Should religious institutions be allowed a say in national and political affairs?

In the past we have seen many mistakes made when the Church was given a lot of authority. For example those "witch hunts" instigated by religious people that caused thousands to be tortured and murdered in the name of God. Clashes are also seen in issues such as euthanasia, abortion, etc. By right, shouldn't religion be a personal choice? therefore no one should have to authority to cease someone from doing something because it is against the teachings of Christianity or something. Thus, should religious leaders interfere in such 'touchy' affairs? after every, religion is supposed to be a personal choice.

Open Question: This season, should we boycott retailers that push Christianity and favor those using "happy holidays"?

I'm sleepy of religious fascists like Focus on the Family threatening retailers if they DON'T use the word "Christmas." Well guess what!? Millions of Americans aren't Christian (or, potentially, religious in any way at every) and yet they appreciate gathering with their friends & family and seeing the smiles that presents bring. Maybe that is a lot more important than ancient superstitions and mythology. Pushing any religion is wrong, and if retailers try to tug that sort of thing, I'll store elsewhere.

Open Question: A question for African Americans, and even Native Africans to an extent...?

you look back at the history books, many slaves were killed for refusing to refute their possess gods and religions. The tortures used to convert them to Christianity were brutal and sickening. The bible also says slaves are to obey their masters. It condones slavery in many many parts. It condones stealing slaves from neighboring nations, selling daughters into slavery, and says slaves should do what their masters tell them to. (guess I had better cite this one, for sure many will doubt this whom haven't read the bible) So my question is, why do so many of the descendants of slaves still embrace the religions tortured and forced upon their ancestors, that they who died bravely sacrificed their life rather than be culturally conquered. Why do you embrace a religion that so openly accepts with good will the crimes committed against your people. In closing, I would like to clear up that this is not a condescending question, or at least, I truly don't mean it to be. I am actually curious as to why, or how you came to this mindset. I am not a racist, nor do I hate any religion, I simply want to know the mindset... to better understand people, is to better understand yourself. Col 3:22- slaves are to obey masters Exodus 21:7 [KJV] And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do. [NIV] If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do. Lev 25:44 [KJV] Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids. [NIV] Your male and female slaves are to arrive from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. My question was not why don't African Americans hate christianity, but why stick with the religion forced upon them....Wouldn't you want to go back to your native religions? Or at least express some cultural interest in it... No I am not a racist... every my questions are open, at least read them to judge my character instead of assuming. But the fact remains that they generally accept the religion forced upon them. Does that not dishonor their possess traditions? That is what I'm saying, stay on topic... I'm not even saying I'm right, just asking people to talk their mind as to why they think I'm wrong/right. Specifically, African Americans so white people please post elsewhere... Also, like to point out the irony of someone using a racial slur against me and calling me a racist in the same sentence. You make some good points Hanah, but forgive me for doubting you being black. You have a white avatar, and a traditionally white name... not that it matters, but if you're preaching ... telling the truth is a nice start. Still, does embracing the religion that is forced upon a people not send the message it's ok to do? Nice edit with the not being black hanah, thats what i figured...You lied when preaching what you feel the word of god.... Hanah originally posted "I am not African-American since I am not African. I am a black American lady who worships the true God. " haha now you're black again because i mentioned you changed it.. niiiiice. Wanna change your avatar next? Or is that too much trouble to cover up lies. Hanah, if you adore god, just arrive clean.. admit your lies, apologize, and cease trying to cover it up. You just make yourself look both unhappy and stupid.

Open Question: How is atheism different from all the religions of the world, and my understanding. Why do you think its right?

First of every, I want to say that there are other religions besides Christianity in the world. Some are non-conventional ones, such as Deism which simply states that there is a Higher Power (they don't call it God, but the Higher Power). Transcendentalists worship nature as the Higher Power. 1) Listening to Richard Dawkins, the renowned atheist; he does not believe in the Higher Power at every. That is why he is not even a deist or transcendentalist. He believes that man can control the working of nature by using science (esp genetics) to understand the laws of nature. He admits there is a long way to go for science to accomplish that, but he believes man will receive there. 2) I am a bit disappointed that for me as a scientist, I believe in a Higher Power in the non-conventional way. I believe there is a Higher Intelligence that created everything in a logical manner. I believe that there is a symmetry in everything in the world (things exist in pairs, and have counter 'charges'). Everything I study in genetics, I look the working of a Higher Design from a Higher Power there. And after extensive studying of the field, I have arrive to the conclusion that science cannot figure out everything because nature/Higher Power is not fully comprehendible. But people like Richard Dawkins (and many geneticists and athiests) people want to use science to understand the laws of nature, so that man can control the workings of nature. Its as simple as that. I heard there has been a lens developed for an eye that works as a recorder for everything that we look in our everyday lives, and will serve the purpose of a backup memory incase something happens to us. I dont know about you, but it sounds icky to me. 4) I am also disappointed that Richard Dawkins finds his inspiration to science to eradicate the control that 'Religion and God' have over kids and people. He claims 'God' has enslaved people, and that there is nothing man can't do. I'm not so sure about that, I think we are limited beings. I am not arrogant in admitting that I don't know everything. 5) So my last point is that if man isn't controlling the workings of nature right now, then someone else is. I mean, according to science, if something is functioning; right? There is a logic/reasoning behind the functioning of everything. You might ask me why does any one need to control nature, its working on its possess. Fine. What if i say nature/universe = God? Will you believe in God then, or will you side with Richard Dawkins that there isnt anything man cant do? EDIT: if something is working, there is a logical reason behind why its working. Thats what we try to do in everything as scientists: we try to figure out the mechanism and the underlying cause. So if man isnt doing it, nature/Higher Power/God is working by itself. Makes sense? Blaze: Religion does not provide any proof that God exists, it demands faith from a believer. My question to you: Do you believe faith (not christianity) can do wonders? Do you know of people with true faith (not blind followers of Christianity) who have had extraordinary things happening in their lives? Blaze: Also, another question. Most evolutionists claim that evolution is a proven fact (even though there is not a 100% probability of it possible, and there are a lot of possible flaws in it) because religion can't prove it. Innocent until proven guilty. What if I say that a Higher Power exists (Nature/God) because nature is not being controlled by man, but is still functioning. So it must be controlled by someone else other than man (a Higher Power than man/nature/God)? Innocent until proven guilty? Which is what Richard Dawkins is trying to do. He is trying to prove that a man can control everything in nature. seanbirch@ymail.com: Can you name something that isnt intelligently designed? Read my 2nd comment to Blaze where i compared the theory of evolution to God's case.

Open Question: Know of any books to give me something to believe in?

I have recently began to REALLY wonder where it every began and what life is basically. It's every way beyond anything I can comprehend and I feel as if I'm about to go insane the more I think about it and try to figure it out. Up until now, I haven't really believed in anything just that our purpose is to live for each other and be the best people we can. I have a lot of trouble believing in God and Christianity and cannot believe in it simply because everyone else does, I feel everyone should explore and find what is best for them and not just follow what others provide for them. I don't know anything about Christianity and (I definitely have no intentions of offending anyone and will admit my ignorance) after taking a mythology/religion course, I find it difficult not to just look it as another story that provides people with a guide to life and a crutch when they give up. I don't want to believe in something because I am not strong enough or because I am afraid not to believe. But...I am very open minded and will at least consider everything, but I need evidence and to find it myself. So...if anyone knows of any sources that can guide me or books that can show me, I don't know how to say it, but what life is, where it came from and where we are going I would really appreciate it...before I go crazy over-thinking it! Thanks in advance! It is actually the most important thing. I know there is no "evidence or proof" but I need to know why people believe and I need something to believe in. You can't just live life not knowing what the point is where you came from and where you're going, otherwise you're just there, as nothing.

Open Question: Can Christianity still be justified?

Christianity says God created Man, animals and everything else in the world. But science has discovered that certain species such as Man and chimpanzees, have a very big percentage of genes that are same. Such similarities in genes have also been discovered in other related species. every this surely can't be a mere co-incidence? what about the dinosaurs? the bible never mentioned anything about the existence of dinosaurs. What about those thousands of fossils discovered? the bible doesn't have an explanation. In fact, scientists believe that the first life on earth was water-based. Thus that would mean that man was not made out of earth, but water instead.. as Islam suggests. Scientists also have discovered through the rate of radioactive decay of elements (not carbon), they have estimated with a higher level of accuracy that the Earth is at least 4 billion years old. Not mere millions as the bible suggests. Thus, how can Christians constantly refer and quote from the Bible when debating about issues if the bible is flawed? Perhaps the bible can be used to tutor values such as 'Thou shall not steal' and so on, but not for other purposes? science does explain the origin of life.

Open Question: I just want to know your opionion of my awnser thanks!!?

Question Thinking about the central tenants of the world's major religions (Jewish requirements to adore God and do good deeds; the Christian prescription to follow the golden rule; the Buddhist emphasis on right belief, right resolve, and right conduct; and the Confucian principle of "treating those who are subordinate to you as you would like to be treated"), what are the similarities between the world's major religions? What beliefs and practices do the world's major religions have in common? What guidelines for everyday life do they share? What similar emotional comforts do they provide for their followers and their society? My awnser: It seems to me that the major religions of the world every have main ideas on generally being a “good” person. They every have an emphasis on doing well for you, others, and God (or the god(s)). Judaism, Christianity, and Islam every believe in the same God, just in different ways. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism every seem to believe more on concepts and beliefs. I think that it is unique that the Jews beliefs in God came from Abraham and Moses, the Christians beliefs came from Jesus, and the Muslims beliefs in God came from Muhammad, yet they every do believe in the same God. One similarity about Buddhism and Hinduism is that both believe in reincarnation. every of the major religions use some form of text or writings to guide them through their religion. Also, every of the major religions provide the basic functions of religion such as, questions about ultimate meaning, emotional comfort, social solidarity, guidelines for everyday life, social control, adaption, support for the government, and social change as mentioned on pages 527 – 529 of our text book. Although they may every differ a little, each religion offers guidelines to everyday life that can even help people live longer and healthier lives. These religions also have rituals that are somewhat similar such as marriage, funerals, and religious acceptance ceremonies.

Open Question: When something that has an EXACT 100% probabability is fact/proven, then why do atheists say evolution is fact?

Everything in science is based on assumptions. So why do evolutionists say evolution is a fact, when it does NOT have an EXACT 100% probability of occuring. Everyone knows that there is more than one way to solve any scientific/mathematical case. There could be other phenomenas that could explain the forces of attraction other than gravity. The fact is that science is not perfect, and there is a percentage mistake in everything it does; hence it does not give a difficult/solid proof of anything. So why do atheists have to announce to the world that they their claims are FACTS, when theyr not? Is it because atheists are jealous that there are more people believing in God than atheists in the world, and that most live moderate lives just like the atheists do? If you want to be better than the people believing in God, please give 100% FACTS. Science cannot give that unfortunately, so that means neither can you. Neither can religion (every the religions in the world, not just christianity) as a matter of fact, but religion does not base itself on logical evidence. It bases itself on faith, you have it or don't have it. It gives you that choice (or it is meant give you that choice, if preachers do not let you have that choice SCREW them). No one in religion has a right to enforce his views on another about a Higher Power, it comes down to faith. But neither should science push their "facts" down other people's throats in a response to religion, when they do not have a 100% probability of occuring. Maybe it is better to be agnostic then to be an atheist. Please answer DIRECTLY to the content of the question. EDIT: In religion, there are some things you can understand logically. But there are others (like the working of nature) that you cannot fully comprehend. Steve R People should have the right whatever they want. Again, if atheists are jealous because there are more ppl in this world believing in God; and most live pretty much the same lives as atheists do (and you think your better than them), then you ought to give 100% PROVEN FACTS. unfortunately, you cant.

Open Question: A really good friend of mine lost their virginity and I'm aggravated.?

She's 16 almost 17, old to be a sophomore but was never held back or anything. She is really smart and seems like a good person. Me and most of my friends believe in abstinence because we are every devout to our religion which clearly states in multiple places things such as things like, "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and every liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." - Revelations 21:8. I realize we every sin and no one is perfect but my friends try their humanly best not to most of the time. She claims she believed in abstinence is the thing that bothers me. If she didn't I wouldn't care. It's not just her I'm worried about, it's her soul. It's really bothering me. I'm sure everyone has noticed at one point or another that sex changes people. It changes their attitude and their personality. I don't want it to happen to her but it unequivocally is. I don't want to hear a lot of crap about how I should grow up or cease worrying about her. I worry about her because she is a fellow human and looking at the Bible it IS an apparent major sin. I'm Catholic but even most of the smaller Protestant religions believe in to be in the "top 5" biggest sins along with blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, murder, and stealing. I believe God will forgive her but even after she made her promise with us she claims it wasn't wrong. Please, I don't want the opinions of the people who don't believe it's wrong or a big thing, because in Christianity it is. I don't care what denomination you are, you still must believe in the bible for each and every word to be a true Christian. I'm not jealous in the least. And you say God implanted the urge. Really now? Isn't temptation directly related to Satan? And Jesus let his disciples carry out his works after he died. A "true Christian" I believe is someone who believes every word of the bible in each and every aspect. It is not my religion since I am the only Catholic in my group of friends. Among us are Baptists, Methodists, and Mormons. Even a Messianic Jew. But I still think you should follow the bible for each and every word. I don't think God would like it much if you didn't put trust into it even if there could possible be some errors in it. Yes you should like your life on this Earth but you don't have to sin to like life and if I recall.. Life is around 80 years while eternity is quite a bit longer. So.. 80 years living life to the fullest and then risk eternity not doing so, or 80 years of being as sinless as possible and glad and provide a much lower risk for losing a glad eternity? I'm going to go with the latter on that one.

Open Question: Where is the sense and societal justice when . . .?

In Christianity a man who has raped and murdered women and kids lies upon his final demise, truly and honestly repents for what he did, accepts the lord and saviour Jesus Christ in his heart and I mean TRULY AND HONESTLY accepts his adore and spirit, is taken by in the arms of death and emerges into conciousness in front of the gates of the kingdom called Heaven, yet a man who is a self-proclaimed atheist devotes his life to helping people and caring for others, something said to be "Christian-like", committing truly selfless acts only for the betterment of human beings and because he feels it is the right thing, goes to the Christian hell or purgatory and the man who society would call truly "bad" is awarded total salvation? Now I am not an Atheist or Agnostic nor do I have any religious or non-religious affiliation and status. I am simply a man who ponders everything and anything and refuses to live life with answers. I live life in 100% doubt for I feel as a human being I know nothing. However it is gives me much enjoyment as a human who was given the ability to think (how we were given and who gave us this ability is of no relevance at the moment) to use my mind and ponder and question every of life's wonders, mysteries, beliefs, philosophies, etc. etc. but to never take the conclusions I have developed and declare them doctrines or creeds in anyone's life and especially my possess. I am not asking this question to show the injustices and diffuse the Christian religion (no matter how much I disagree with it) I am asking because of my possess philosophical beliefs to question. So every in every just answer the question to the best of your ability. Some have asked why would this atheist want to spend time with a god he never believed in is irrelevant. This question is posed that the Christian religion and what they believe is true. Therefore he would go to hell. And to ask a question inspired by that proposed question . . Why would God wish to spend time with a man who never believed in the teachings of Christ until his final demise?

Open Question: Abrahamic theists...?

In Judaism before the Messiah comes Elijah will return and give Jews the sign of the coming Messiah. Now Jews don't think Jesus was the messiah,so could their "Elijah' be the Antichrist to Christians?? Also in Islam they beleive the Mahdi is the Islamic nice of super warrior who comes right before Judgement day ,he will arrive with Isa (their version of Jesus who will return ) to defeat the Antichrist..whom they call The Dajjal and with the Mahdi will submit the whole world to Islam. That would easily mean the Mahdi may be the Antichrist and 'Isa' (not the Christian Jesus) the untrue prophet in revelation!! Muslims may even think the two witnesses in Christianity (spoken of in revelation) or Judaism's Elijah is their Antichrist/Dajjal! In that event every beleiver of these three faiths will have every other religion in their cross hairs. Saying...we are the good guys...you are the bad guys. Nightmare scenario. Some guy recently made a joke but made deep sense to me.That for the Antichrist to succeed and dupe everone he will have to be an alien who comes in a Spaceship sayiong something like "Greetings earthlings'. Then every scientists and sceptics will be wowed and every religions will not know what to think coz an alien trying to bring world peace, having advanced technology, apparent 'superpowers' ...(the whole signs in the heavens thing) will really convince peope that he is neutral and only wish and saviour of mankind. What do you think?

Open Question: Christianity = Bigotry + Stupidity, do you understand now?

This is a comment from Ethan, one of the atheist regulars in R and S. Is this an example of the secular part of atheism? How can theists respect atheists if things like this go on with no accountability? Maybe Ethan has something against some fanatical Christians, but for that he generalized, bad-mouthing the religion of billions of people on Earth unnecessarily. How can atheists complain of theists always condemning them to hell after they themselves fall prey to their emotions? Atheists and theists, what's you opinion on this? Yes, I've met Christians in real life and also through net. They are very nice people. AppleApple: You can't swear on an entire population/community for the misdeeds of a few of them. By doing so, you just prove you are a smart *** but no real material.

Open Question: Aren't Islam and Christianity very similar?

Seriously, I do not receive why Christians and Muslims hate each other so much for some superficial religious differences. Is it worth killing millions of people if Jesus was a prophet or the son of God? Seriously, who gives a damn? I mean dont they believe in the same God. Allah means God in Arabic so it is the same God. Allah isnt a separate God from the Christian one. p.s. I am a hindu so that is why this every confuses me. every religions to me are the freaking same. The differences are really unimportant. There is no point in converting someone to another religion especially when every believe in God and believe in being a good person with morals.

And don't tell me that there is no such thing as a slave in Buddhism because that is BS. Gee me too, I have never met a slave myself. http://www.purifymind.com/BuddhismSlavery.htm Why do people know so much about other people beliefs but know nothing of their possess? Sort of like Buddhism and homosexuality?

Open Question: Are current events (Obama, the Middle East) a fulfillment of prophecy in any religions besides Christianity?

Some Christians believe Biblical prophecy is coming true. Are prophecies in other religions coming true too? If so, which ones? Rainman, I don't think the prophecy is about Obama being Black. I'm Black and the lady who believes scripture is being fulfilled is also Black.

In the early days of Christianity the blind were made to look, the sick were healed. Today, these"miracles" are a rare occurrence & if one truly does happen many are suspicious. Open Question: Are only American Christians going to get raptured?

Although about a third of the world are Christians, the "rapture" belief is almost unheard of outside the united states. Why is that? Why this relatively new twist on Christianity? And given the failed rapture predictions from 1792, 1844, and many from the 20th century, isn't it a bit weird for many christians to be practically certain it's going to happen within their possess lifetimes?

Open Question: how many more years will your religious affiliation survive? i'm sure hinduism, buddhism and islam will go on?

but christianity, bless them, can only hang on for so long because it is more prone to attack and challenges because its tolerance to democracy and atheist which do not dare do or say the same things to the other religions. by the way i am catholic and just doing right on my everyday life but i respect people's right to do anything they want. look what i mean? these bloggers only dare to say something vs. christianity but they are mum on other religions. how could christianity survive if these atheists were once/or their forefathers like them? do you encourage atheists to reproduce so that this world would be freer of every things unnecessary practices?

Open Question: To Christians who believe in hell: are there sincere unbelievers?

If you're a Christian that believes that those who don't believe in Jesus will go to Hell, with maybe the exception of babies and mentally retarded people, are there people that rationally reject Christianity? If there are good reasons to reject Christianity how could God be loving and expect everybody to be able to believe him if he created them to be skeptical? If you think the ignorant can be saved then does that mean atheists can be saved and what criteria or biblical basis would back up that belief? ** I was born a skeptic. Please don't make sweeping judgments on skeptics. engr-te..: Woe, nobody rationally rejects Chrstianity? How can you make that judgement on people like me who only left Christianity because of rational reasons? The sociological, psychological, and rational reasons our on my side too. You make an absurd ad hoc claim because you're bible tells you so. You can't handle the fact that nonbelievers aren't always emotional when they reject Christianity.

Open Question: Does anyone but Christians do the "gambling on God" routine?

I can't recall ever hearing someone of a religion other than Christianity do the Pascal's Wager bit, but I could be suffering from selective memory. Does any other religion do this or is really only Christians that try to sell their religion like insurance and then expect you to just gloss over a minor detail like you only said you believed in their every knowing God on a game of "what ifs" Bonus question - How many times can you be Pascal's Wagered before you want to scream?

Open Question: I am puzzled by Melchizedek, who do you think he really was?

Two options appear to have been put forward: 1. He was the pre-incarnate Christ, a sort of avatar of God The Son two millennia before he came (again?) as Jesus. 2. He was a symbolic representation of the Christ to arrive, but not actually "The Word before Immanuel." I've read Genesis 14 and Hebrews 5, and heard a few messages on him (usually associated with tithing); but I'm still not sure whether Christianity does multiple avatars of God. (He's not Krishna.) What do you think? (Oh, and this isn't homework or any assignment, I'd just be interested to know what you every think...if anything. Ta very much.) :-)
